10:14AM - New Peter Sotos Book, 'Show Adult'

Received an email from Creation last night regarding a new work by Peter Sotos, 'Show Adult'.

From their site:

"THE LATEST BOOK BY PETER SOTOS

Described by Peter Sotos as “using pornography as a personal Skinner box experiment”, SHOW ADULT also co-opts the behaviourist methodology of psychologist Harry Harlow in a violent new work which goes beyond pornography to investigate the very experience of pornography itself.

SHOW ADULT is composed of two “film-scripts”, the first about editing and content, the second concerned with acting, direction, and instructions/vanity. Within this construct Sotos covers such cases as child porn star Masha Allen, murder victim Carlie Brucie and her prostitute mother Susan Schorpen, and the infant-raping babysitters Alan Webster and Tanya French. He also dissects TV shows “Supernanny” and “To Catch A Predator”during this excessive trip through his familiar milieu of glory holes and cum-splashed urinals.

SHOW ADULT is published in an extremely limited signed edition of 113 hardbacks. Every hardback copy of SHOW ADULT comes with a free, brand new WAITRESS booklet produced by Sotos to serve as an index to the main book, with multiple annotations, clippings and visual references. The SHOW ADULT hardback and WAITRESS booklet are only available through this website and will not be sold in stores.

SHOW ADULT hardback + WAITRESS booklet.
$59.00 + $5 postage inside USA, $10 postage outside USA.
Pre-order now.
First come, first served.
Books will ship on or around May 1 2007."

About PREDICATE:

The Dunblane Massacre in Scotland, March 1996, remains the most abhorred act of mass murder ever perpetrated in the British Isles. Thomas Hamilton, a 43-year-old former scout leader, entered Dunblane Primary School armed with 4 handguns and shot dead 16 schoolchildren and 1 teacher before turning his weapons on himself.
Ten years on, controversial author Peter Sotos re-examines Dunblane, dissecting Thomas Hamilton’s motives and life and revealing the gay sub-culture of clandestine paedophilia which spawned this most reviled of all killers. Sotos covers such subjects as Operation Ore, the Wonderland arrests, Russian orphanages, Megan’s law and non-nude Teen websites to illustrate how art and reality blur into the banality of pornography, voyeurism and murder.

Yeah, in other news the cheaper non-limited edition version of PROXY has been out for a while, and it's really cheap at amazon. I really wish Creation would stop pulling all this super-limited edition stuff, because frankly, I'd really like a copy of WAITRESS, but definently don't have an extra 50 bucks right now, which was the case when the limited edition PROXY was announced. Oh well.

AND:

Comfort and Critique by Peter Sotos

$45 | 256 pages | 5.75" x 8.25" | privately issued without ISBN number | limited numbered edition of 325 copies bound in linen boards and signed by the author | 2 book limit per customer

In this unsettling new book, cult author Peter Sotos recounts the abduction and murder of 8-year-old Sarah Payne, a crime that stunned England and spawned an aftermath of reactionary outcry and violent protest. Through news bites and tabloid clippings reassembled in reverse chronology, Sotos examines the media apotheosis of Payne's parents in the wake of her disappearance, scrutinizes the hidden motives of reporters and citizens driven to hysterical excess by grief, vengeance, and opportunism, and illumines the insatiable lusts that govern the actions of sexual predators. Punctuated by philosophical overtures and self-deprecating quips, Comfort and Critique is a brutal meditation on fantasy and desire set against a backdrop of media banter and illicit back room activity in bars and underground sex clubs. Supplemented by over 100 photos, this volume is possibly Sotos' most revealing and multi-faceted work yet.

1:59AM - Peter Sotos et. al. in London

First the rest:
Pan Pantziarka read first, from a work-in-progress, which sounds very promising indeed. Very dark and harsh but also funny. Remember hearing him read at the Horse Hospital a few years ago. Always meant to pick up his book, House of Pain, but never got around to it(now have it, have started reading it, and so far enjoying it). Then Chris whose-surname-is-destined-to-forever-escape-me, but who is a journalist, read his article on dogging, which was funny and interesting(accompanied by some rather disturbing footage of said practice (put it away, woman, please)), followed by Jack Sargeant, who read something from his forthcoming book about body modifications. Quite harrowing. Remind me never to go to Mexico to have any limbs cut off. Not a good idea, apparently. Adam Parfrey of Feral House was on last. Interesting talk about various books he’s published etc. though a bit too much about conspiracy theories for my taste. He’s doing a similar thing in Norway May 8th.

And then:
Peter Sotos’ reading was somewhat more shambolic than the previous one I went to. This time he had slides, and mostly talked about them rather than reading, which was fine. Admittedly, his stuff is better read in private. The Q & A was pretty hostile. Pascal, the somewhat crazed Frenchman, dredged up a particular quote from the interview in the first Apocalypse Culture (anyone who’s read it can probably guess which quote it is) and demanded... what exactly was not at all clear, but he wouldn’t let it go, whatever it was. He was almost the only one asking questions, so not very illuminating, I have to say. Still, despite my rather unfortunate comment to the contrary (see my journal for embarrassing details), just seeing/hearing the man for a few minutes was well worth the trip for me (so what was up with turning the lights off? Nice slides, but... ).
